Mighty Earth is seeking a consultant to support its EU Nature & Deforestation campaign work from June 2026 to December 2028.

The consultant will contribute to Mighty Earth’s advocacy and campaign strategy related to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), nature protection, climate, methane emissions linked to agricultural supply chains, and the promotion of deforestation-free supply chains, with a particular focus on Spain and broader EU engagement.

This consultancy will play an important role in supporting Mighty Earth’s efforts to defend and strengthen the implementation of the EUDR at a time of increased political pressure from some industry actors and governments to weaken environmental safeguards. The consultant will support engagement with policymakers, retailers, companies, civil society organizations, and strategic partners to advance ambitious implementation of EU environmental policies and corporate commitments related to forests, nature, and climate.

The consultant will also contribute to campaigns targeting retailers and agribusiness supply chains linked to soy, cattle, leather, and other forest-risk commodities, while helping strengthen advocacy efforts connected to climate and methane emissions reductions in the food and agriculture sector.

This is a remote consultancy position, either full-time or 4/5th time depending on the profile and availability of the selected candidate. The consultant can be based in Spain or Brussels. Compensation will be defined according to experience.

The consultant will work closely with Mighty Earth’s Nature & Deforestation team, campaigners, and external partners in Europe and Latin America. The role includes advocacy, campaign coordination, private sector engagement, communications support, and coordination with local partners and subgrantees.

ACTIVITIES

Services provided by the EU Nature & Deforestation Policy Consultant will contribute to Mighty Earth’s efforts to strengthen EU environmental regulations, defend forests and ecosystems, improve corporate accountability, and support the implementation of deforestation-free supply chains.
Main responsibilities include:

Supporting Mighty Earth’s advocacy strategy related to the implementation and defense of the EUDR at EU and Member State level.
Monitoring political developments related to the EUDR, EU nature policies, trade discussions, and corporate sustainability regulations.
Supporting engagement with EU institutions, Member States, policymakers, and civil society organizations on issues related to forests, nature, climate, and agricultural supply chains.
Engaging with retailers and private sector actors, particularly in Spain, to strengthen corporate support for deforestation-free supply chains, methane reductions, and ambitious implementation of the EUDR.
Supporting campaign activities related to forests, nature protection, agricultural supply chains, and commodity-driven deforestation linked to soy, cattle, leather, and other forest-risk commodities.
Helping coordinate advocacy and communications activities linked to Mighty Earth’s EUDR strategy, including collaboration with NGOs, coalitions, journalists, and strategic stakeholders.
Supporting the preparation of campaign materials, policy briefings, reports, presentations, public communications materials, and strategic analysis.
Supporting outreach and engagement with companies, investors, business coalitions, and other stakeholders working on deforestation-free supply chains and sustainable agriculture.
Coordinating and following up on subgrants and partnerships in Colombia, including regular exchanges with local partners and support for project implementation and reporting.
Supporting the development of strategic narratives and advocacy messages that resonate beyond the environmental movement, particularly around economic resilience, supply chain security, climate risks, and business responsibility.
Contributing to campaign coordination related to climate and methane emissions linked to livestock and agricultural supply chains.
Participating in external meetings, coalition calls, conferences, and advocacy events related to forests, climate, agriculture, and EU environmental policy.
Working closely with Mighty Earth’s international campaign teams to support coordination between European and Latin American advocacy strategies.
Additional responsibilities may vary depending on the consultant’s expertise, experience, and evolving campaign priorities.

Strong understanding of EU policy processes and advocacy related to environmental, climate, agriculture, forest, nature, or trade issues.
