Senior Development Manager
Mighty Earth is accepting applications for a Senior Development Manager, a critical member of our development team and a key player advancing our mission to protect earth for nature and secure a livable climate. As our Senior Development Manager, you will play a lead role in building the resources needed to grow our campaigns to address the climate crisis around the world.
You will report to our Senior Director of Development and work closely with our CEO to build our foundation fundraising and major gifts programs. You will play a vital role in growing Mighty Earth’s campaigns to protect and restore Nature and deliver gigaton-scale climate impact.

Your responsibilities:
As the Senior Development Manager, you will report to our Senior Director of Development and work closely with our CEO, campaign teams, and finance team to help build and manage our foundation and major gift programs. You will help expand our established foundation fundraising program through grant writing and reporting, and you will develop donor cultivation, communication, and stewardship strategies, providing the infrastructure to help our leadership team grow our small but growing major gifts program. You will partner with our campaign staff in the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America to bring the stories of their work directly to current and potential philanthropic partners.
Specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Regularly engaging Mighty Earth’s campaign and communications teams to keep abreast of campaign developments and events, as well as coordinating opportunities to engage donors and prospects;
- Developing compelling grant applications, reports, concept notes, pitches, and creative presentations;
- Assisting in donor communications with foundation and individual donors, including developing outreach materials for campaign staff and leadership;
- Communicating directly with foundations and donors over phone and email and in face-to-face meetings;
- Supporting our CEO, Senior Director of Development, and Board members in identifying and researching major gifts prospects;
- Supporting the CEO and Senior Director of Development on major gifts fundraising, including driving and tracking donor engagement;
- Assisting the Senior Director of Development to create annual and long-term fundraising plans for the organization, and producing pipeline reports and revenue forecasts;
- Managing the fundraising database and maintaining accurate and timely records;
- Working with our finance team to ensure reporting and compliance for all gifts and grants;
- Providing planning and logistical support for donor events and board meetings, as needed.
What we’re looking for in you:
Key qualifications:
- You have at least five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, preferably in an advocacy, organizing, or campaign setting;
- You are familiar with foundation fundraising, grant writing, and reporting, and are a strong writer.
- You have some experience with major gifts and individual fundraising programs, with knowledge of donor stewardship practices;
- You can take in, understand, and reinterpret complex information for a variety of audiences, including those unfamiliar and deeply familiar with Mighty Earth’s work;
- You have an aptitude for technology and can get up to speed with with new platforms; you can teach yourself basic skills with new tools;
- You have strong project management skills, the ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, and excellent attention to detail;
- You are flexible and can adapt to rapid changes;
- You are passionate about protecting the environment and advancing a more just society.
- You have strong communication skills;
- You have cross-cultural competencies and a commitment to working with people from a variety of backgrounds in an international organization.
Preferred qualifications:
- You have experience working with environmental donors.
- You have some experience working with senior leadership staff and/or boards of directors.
- You have event planning experience.
- Experience working in a campaigning, advocacy, or grassroots organization is a big plus.

Details:
- This is a full-time position.
- Location: Candidates can be based in the US or Europe, with a preference for candidates based in US EST/CST or GMT time zones. For candidates based in the D.C. area, working in the office once a week is expected.
- You will report to our Senior Development Director.
- Compensation and benefits: The salary range for this position is $85K - $100K, depending on experience. We have a generous benefits package including group health insurance, dental benefits, unlimited vacation time, paid holidays, and a 403(b) plan.
- This position requires some travel, roughly 10% time per month.
